Air Duct Cleaning in Northern Utah
We vacuum and brush out your supply and return ducts, clean the registers and blower area, and clean dryer vents too.
Do your air ducts need cleaning?
Your air ducts likely need cleaning if dust blows from the vents, you just finished a remodel, pests got into the ductwork, or you moved into a home with no record of a cleaning. Air duct cleaning removes the dust and debris that collect inside your supply and return ducts. Each time the furnace or air conditioner runs, air travels through those ducts on its way to your rooms, and if they are dirty, some of that dirt rides along. Cleaning them lets the system move air more easily and cuts down on the dust that lands on your furniture. This service is part of our duct cleaning and sealing work. If your ducts leak or have come apart, you need duct sealing and repair instead of cleaning, or along with it.
Warning signs it is time for air duct cleaning
Dust puffs out of the vents
You see a puff of dust at a register when the system kicks on, or gray fuzz builds up on the vent covers. The ducts behind them are carrying debris into the room.
You just remodeled
Drywall dust, sawdust and other fine debris from a remodel get pulled into the return vents. Unless someone removes it, that dust can sit in the ducts for years.
Mice or insects got into the ducts
Rodents and insects sometimes move into ductwork, most often in basements, crawl spaces and garages. They leave droppings and debris behind that should be cleaned out.
A stale or musty smell at startup
An odor that shows up each time the system turns on can come from buildup and moisture in the ducts. Cleaning removes the source of the smell so you are not just covering it up.
Common causes of dirty ducts
Return vents pull in everything
Return vents draw air from your rooms back to the furnace. Along with the air come dust, hair, lint and pet dander. The filter catches much of it, though some always gets by, and more slips past when the filter is loose or overdue for a change.
Dry, dusty seasons
Hot, dry summers, seasonal dust and the occasional spell of wildfire smoke put plenty of fine particles in Northern Utah air. Some of that ends up in your ducts, layer by layer.
Leaky return ducts
A return duct with a gap in the attic, crawl space or garage sucks in unfiltered air from that space. That dust goes straight into the system, and sealing the gap stops it at the source.
Debris left from construction
Even new homes can have debris in the ducts from when they were built. If the vents were open while drywall was sanded, the dust settled inside before you moved in.
What to expect from our air duct cleaning
Call or book online and we will set a time during business hours. Please clear a path to the vents and to the furnace. Our technician starts with an inspection to see how dirty the ducts are and where the worst spots are. Then the cleaning begins:
- We hook a high-powered vacuum to the duct system. It keeps the ducts under suction, so loosened dust is pulled out of the house rather than blown into your rooms.
- We use rotary brushes and air whips, which are spinning brushes and whipping air hoses, to knock debris loose from the inside walls of the supply and return ducts.
- We clean the registers, grilles and diffusers, the blower housing and the evaporator coil, the indoor coil that cools the air in summer.
- We make sure the system runs correctly and tidy the work area before we leave.
Most homes take a few hours, depending on the size of the house and the number of vents. If we spot leaks, crushed ducts or missing insulation along the way, we show you and quote the repair before doing anything about it. Repairs carry our warranty on parts and labor.
Dryer vent cleaning
Your dryer vent is separate from the heating and cooling ducts, and it still needs regular cleaning. Lint builds up in the vent that runs from the dryer to the outside wall or roof. A clogged dryer vent is a fire hazard, and it makes the dryer run longer. Watch for clothes that need extra time to dry, a dryer that feels very hot, a burning smell, or an outside flap that barely opens. We clean the full vent run and the outside cap, and we can do it on the same visit as your duct cleaning.
To keep the rest of the system clean between duct cleanings, look at our VIP Maintenance Plan. It costs $240 a year and includes one 2-hour visit a year covering an 88-point HVAC and plumbing inspection, a 1-inch filter replacement and a written report, plus 10% off repairs and priority scheduling.
Air duct cleaning across Northern Utah
We clean ducts in homes throughout our service area from our base in Brigham City.
Weber and Davis County: Ogden, North Ogden, South Ogden and Layton. Remodeled older homes here often hold years of buildup plus a fresh layer of construction dust.
Box Elder County: Brigham City, Perry, Willard, Mantua, Corinne and Tremonton. Seasonal dust in the dry months adds up fast in return ducts.
Cache Valley: Logan, Hyrum, Nibley, Smithfield and North Logan. Inversions keep houses closed up, so the same indoor air circulates through the ducts again and again.
