Whole-System HVAC

Your furnace, air conditioner, ducts and thermostat work as one system. Start here for system installation, repair, tune-ups and thermostats.

When should you look at your whole HVAC system?

Look at the whole system when problems show up in both seasons, in several rooms, or right after one part was replaced. HVAC stands for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. In most Northern Utah homes those pieces are tied together. The furnace blower moves the cool air in summer. The air conditioner's indoor coil sits on top of the furnace, and one thermostat runs both. When one piece is weak, the others feel it. Whole-system work means we check how everything performs together before we recommend a repair or a new system. This part of our site covers that work:

Already know which piece is acting up? Go straight to air conditioning, heating and furnaces, heat pumps, ductless mini-splits or boilers.

Warning signs the problem is bigger than one part

Some rooms are always too hot or too cold

Upstairs bedrooms bake in July while the basement stays chilly in January. The cause is often airflow, duct layout or equipment size. A repair to one unit seldom evens that out.

Heating and cooling both struggle

The system runs long on cold nights and on hot afternoons. That can point to a weak blower, a dirty coil or leaky ducts. Those parts serve both seasons, so both seasons suffer.

Energy bills keep climbing

Gas bills rise in winter and power bills rise in summer, yet you use the house the same way. The system may be losing ground as a whole. Dirty coils, a tired blower motor or air leaking out of the ducts are common reasons.

Trouble started after one part was replaced

A new air conditioner paired with an old furnace and an old indoor coil can run poorly from day one. Equipment that was never matched can freeze up, short cycle or wear out early.

Common causes of whole-system problems

Equipment sized by guesswork

A system that is too big starts and stops too often and leaves rooms uneven. One that is too small runs nonstop on the coldest and hottest days. Good sizing starts with a load calculation. That is a room-by-room look at how much heat your home gains and loses.

Ducts that leak or choke airflow

Ducts carry every bit of heated and cooled air. Gaps, crushed runs and loose joints in attics and crawl spaces waste that air before it reaches you. Our duct cleaning and sealing work covers this side of the system.

Controls that send the wrong signal

An old or badly placed thermostat can misread the room. Wiring faults can also keep the heating and cooling equipment from working together the way they should.

Skipped seasonal care

Dirty filters, dusty blower wheels and clogged outdoor coils add up. Each one is small. Together they make every part of the system work harder, and Northern Utah's dust and occasional wildfire smoke speed that up.

What to expect when we look at your whole system

It starts with a phone call or an online request. We set a time during business hours. Our technician asks what you have noticed and then checks the whole air path. That means the heating and cooling equipment, the blower, the filter, the thermostat and the airflow at your registers.

Next we explain what we found in plain language and lay out your options. Sometimes one repair fixes it. Sometimes the right answer is replacing one piece with a part that matches the rest. Sometimes it makes more sense to replace the system. We weigh the age of your equipment and how often it has needed repairs. We also look at how efficiently it runs and at any safety concerns. Then we give you honest advice, and you get the price before any work starts.

Repairs come with a warranty on parts and labor. New installations come with a workmanship warranty. We install Goodman and Amana systems, and financing is available through our lending partners. See financing for details. To keep the whole house on a yearly schedule, look at our VIP Maintenance Plan. It costs $240 a year and includes one 2-hour visit a year covering an 88-point HVAC and plumbing inspection, a 1-inch filter replacement and a written report. Members also get 10% off repairs and priority scheduling.

Whole-system HVAC across Northern Utah

Our home base is Brigham City. Every town we serve has cold winters with freeze-thaw cycles and sub-zero nights. Summers are hot and dry. One system has to work hard in both seasons.

Box Elder County: Brigham City, Perry, Willard, Corinne, Mantua and Tremonton. From Mantua up Sardine Canyon to Tremonton in the Bear River Valley, homes here face long heating seasons and hot summer afternoons.

Cache Valley: Hyrum, Nibley, Logan, North Logan and Smithfield. Winter inversions keep windows shut for long stretches. Filtration and steady airflow matter as much as the furnace itself.

Weber and Davis County: North Ogden, Ogden, South Ogden and Layton. Older homes in established neighborhoods often have ductwork sized for an earlier furnace. Newer subdivisions need equipment and ducts set up right from the start.
