Hydro Jetting in Northern Utah
Hydro jetting for Northern Utah homes: a high-pressure water nozzle scrubs grease, scale and debris off the inside of drain and sewer pipes.
What clears a drain that keeps clogging after snaking?
A drain that keeps clogging after snaking usually needs hydro jetting, where a nozzle drives high-pressure water through the pipe to scour off the grease, mineral scale and debris a snake leaves behind. A snake, also called an auger, punches an opening through a blockage so water can pass again. The buildup lining the pipe stays put, and the next clog forms on it. A jetting nozzle works differently. Some of its jets aim ahead to cut through the clog, and others aim backward to scrub the full circle of the pipe wall as the hose moves along. The pipe ends up close to its full width. We jet kitchen lines, main drains and sewer lines across Northern Utah, using the same drain snakes, jetting equipment and sewer cameras that support all of our plumbing services.
Warning signs a drain needs hydro jetting
A kitchen line that clogs every few months
When the same drain needs a snake again and again, the snake is only reopening a channel through buildup. Jetting removes the buildup so there is less to start the next clog.
Tubs, toilets and sinks all slowing down together
A single slow fixture usually has a clog close by. When drains in several rooms slow at once, the restriction is farther down the line, in the main drain or the sewer line.
Bubbling drains and odors
Drains that bubble or gurgle while the washer empties are pushing air past a partial blockage. A sewage smell near a floor drain can mean waste is sitting in the pipe instead of moving out.
Backups at the lowest drain in the house
Water coming up through a basement floor drain or shower means the main line is badly restricted. Stop using water until the line has been checked.
Common causes of buildup that jetting removes
Grease from the kitchen
Fats and oils run down the sink warm and harden as they cool, coating the pipe. Food bits and coffee grounds stick to that coating until the line narrows to a trickle.
Mineral scale from hard water
Northern Utah water is hard and carries a lot of dissolved minerals. Over years they form a chalky crust inside pipes, which shrinks the opening and gives debris something to grab.
Fine roots in older sewer lines
Thin roots slip through joints in older sewer pipe and act like a net. Jetting cuts out fine roots and the debris they hold, and the camera shows whether the roots have damaged the pipe.
Wipes, paper towels and hygiene products
These don't break apart in water the way toilet paper does. They snag on scale or roots and pile up into a dam in the main line.
What to expect when we jet your drains
We book a time during business hours and begin by asking which drains are slow and how long it has been going on. For a main drain or sewer line, we inspect it with a sewer camera before any jetting. The camera shows what is blocking the pipe, where the blockage sits, and whether the pipe is in good enough shape for high-pressure water. We share the screen with you as we go.
You hear your options and the price before any work starts. When the pipe is sound, we put the nozzle in through a cleanout, a capped opening that gives access to the drain line. We feed it through in stages, pulling it back and pushing it forward until the walls are clear, then run water to confirm the line drains freely. If the camera finds a crack, a sag or a collapsed section, jetting is the wrong tool, and we explain sewer line repair options instead. For a single hair clog in a bathroom sink, a snake is often all you need; see drain cleaning.
Repairs come with a warranty on parts and labor. To keep the whole house on a yearly check, look at our VIP Maintenance Plan. It costs $240 a year and includes one 2-hour visit a year covering an 88-point HVAC and plumbing inspection, a 1-inch filter replacement and a written report. On top of that, members get 10% off repairs and priority scheduling.
Hydro jetting across Northern Utah
We bring jetting equipment from our Brigham City base to towns across the region. Several towns have their own hydro jetting page.
Box Elder County. Read about hydro jetting in Brigham City, hydro jetting in Perry and hydro jetting in Tremonton. Town pages: Brigham City, Perry, Tremonton, Willard, Corinne and Mantua. Hard, mineral-rich water makes scale a common cause of slow lines here.
Cache Valley. See hydro jetting in Logan and hydro jetting in Hyrum. Town pages: Logan, Hyrum, Nibley, North Logan and Smithfield. A sewer backup in deep winter is harder to deal with, so slow main lines are worth clearing in fall.
Weber and Davis County. See hydro jetting in Ogden and hydro jetting in Layton. Town pages: Ogden, North Ogden, South Ogden and Layton. Older homes in established neighborhoods may have clay or cast iron sewer pipe, while newer plastic lines clog mostly from grease and wipes.
