Do you need a whole new HVAC system or just one new unit?
You likely need a full new system when your furnace and air conditioner are both old, need repairs every season, or no longer match. If only one piece is failing and the rest is sound, replacing that one unit may be enough. This page covers whole-home HVAC installation and replacement: new heating and cooling equipment chosen as a matched set and sized for your house. We also install single pieces of equipment. Each has its own page: AC installation, furnace installation, heat pump installation and mini-split installation. For a plain overview of how the parts of a home system work together, start at whole-system HVAC.
Warning signs it is time to replace your heating and cooling
Both units are getting old
In many homes the furnace and the air conditioner went in at the same time. So they tend to wear out together. When one quits and the other is close behind, replace both at once. It spares you a second project later, and the new pieces can be matched.
Repair bills are piling up
A repair or two over a system's life is normal. When you call for help every season, the money going into old equipment could be going toward new equipment instead.
Rooms never feel even
Some rooms run warm while others run cold no matter where you set the thermostat. The equipment may be the wrong size, or the ducts may not suit the house as you use it today.
Your house changed but the system did not
You finished the basement, built an addition or want central air where a swamp cooler used to sit in the window. A system sized for the old floor plan can fall behind in the new one.
Common reasons HVAC systems wear out early
Sizing by rule of thumb
Plenty of systems were sized by square footage alone. Others just copied the unit that was there before. That skips the details that matter, like windows, insulation and which way the house faces. We size new equipment with a load calculation. It works out room by room how much heat the house loses on a cold night and picks up on a hot afternoon.
Mismatched indoor and outdoor parts
A new outdoor unit hooked to an old indoor coil or an old furnace blower may never reach its rated efficiency. Parts built to work together run more smoothly and tend to last longer.
Ducts that were never updated
New equipment still pushes air through the old ducts. If those ducts leak or are too small, the new system strains from the first day. We look at the ductwork as part of every replacement quote, and duct sealing and repair can fix many of the problems we find.
Missed maintenance over the years
Dirty coils, clogged filters and worn motors make every part of a system strain. Over time that strain shortens its life, especially in a climate with long heating seasons and hot summers.
What to expect when we install your new system
We start with a visit to your home during business hours. Our technician looks at your current furnace, air conditioner or heat pump, along with the ductwork, the thermostat and the space where the equipment sits. We ask about the rooms that bother you and how you use the house. Then we run the load calculation and lay out your choices. You might get a furnace and air conditioner pair, or a heat pump with a matching indoor unit. Another mix may fit your home and budget better. You get a written price before any work starts. We offer free estimates on new system installations, and financing is available through our lending partners (see financing).
On install day we cover your floors, recover the refrigerant from the old cooling equipment and haul the old units away. We set the new equipment and make each connection it needs: gas, electrical, venting, refrigerant lines and the condensate drain. Before we leave, we start the system and confirm it runs safely. For a gas furnace, that means checking the venting and testing for carbon monoxide. For cooling equipment, it means confirming the refrigerant charge and the airflow. Then we set up the thermostat and show you where the filter goes and how to change it.
We install Goodman and Amana systems, and new installations come with our workmanship warranty. Afterward, the VIP Maintenance Plan helps keep everything running well: $240 a year for one 2-hour visit a year covering an 88-point HVAC and plumbing inspection, a 1-inch filter replacement and a written report, plus 10% off repairs and priority scheduling.
HVAC installation across Northern Utah
We install heating and cooling systems from our home base in Brigham City. Winters here bring freeze-thaw cycles and sub-zero nights, and summers are hot and dry, so new equipment has to be sized for both.
Weber and Davis County. Layton, Ogden, South Ogden and North Ogden. Many homes in established neighborhoods still run a furnace and an air conditioner bought at different times. A matched replacement often helps them most.
Box Elder County. Brigham City, Willard, Perry, Mantua, Corinne and Tremonton. Newer subdivisions here often just need the right size of equipment, while older homes may need duct updates as well.
Cache Valley. Smithfield, North Logan, Logan, Nibley and Hyrum. Long winter inversions keep windows closed, so we pay close attention to filtration and fresh air when we plan a new system here.
